It is sometimes forgotten that the field of fluid dynamics encompasses gases as well as liquids but flying fish provide a fantastic visual reminder that this is the case. Although optimized for life underwater they also (obviously) have the ability to fly, or at least glide, showing that one solution can function in both worlds. They can glide up to 200m and by propelling themselves with their tails can extend this up to more like 400m. (See here for great video)
